Over the last decade, the tools European companies depend on — files, mail, identity, the systems on the factory floor — quietly consolidated onto a handful of non-European clouds. It made operations simpler and dependency invisible.
Invisible until it isn't. A geopolitical shock, a contractual change, or a single provider outage can stop a business that did nothing wrong. dayone makes that dependency visible — and survivable.
Why Europe needs a parallel of its own.
Three forces are converging — concentration, regulation, and sovereignty — and they make a European resilience layer not optional but inevitable.
The dependency is structural. The overwhelming majority of European workloads run on a small number of non-EU hyperscalers. Efficient, until that concentration becomes a single shared point of failure for an entire continent's economy.
Regulation is forcing the issue. With DORA in force since January 2025, financial entities — and the long supply chain around them — must now demonstrate operational resilience and a credible exit from any single provider. Resilience moved from best-practice to obligation.
